In a program including blues, swing, spirituals, and Duke Ellington’s crowd-pleasing arrangement of the Nutcracker Suite, jazz trumpeter Irvin Mayfield and the spirited, swinging, 16-piece New Orleans Jazz Orchestra heats up the holiday season. The ensemble’s new model of Cajun jazz offers impeccable music while celebrating the heritage of this uniquely American music. Home for the Holidays features Mayfield’s selections and arrangements from such diverse and celebrated music as Louis Armstrong’s O Christmas Tree, the Charlie Brown classic Christmas Time is Here, and modern versions of standards like Little Drummer Boy -- done the New Orleans second line way!
