The collaboration of country and bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs with renowned pianist and songwriter (not to mention Virginia native) Bruce Hornsby draws from deep roots in mountain music, raising up a storm of high-harmonies, bluegrass strings, and improvisational piano. As on their self-titled 2007 debut album, the duo is backed by Skaggs’ ace band Kentucky Thunder -- Hornsby's inimitable songwriting and piano added to the core bluegrass lineup of mandolin, guitar, bass, fiddle, and banjo. Whether performing traditional bluegrass arrangements or their reinvention of “Mandolin Rain,” this concert’s music is sure to be as fascinating and masterful as its two stars.
