Actress Jennifer Mendenhall, by Chica TenneyThe Paramount Theater is joining other Charlottesville arts organizations in serving as a site for the citywide exhibition Chica Tenney: Advent. The exhibition traces thirty-five years of Chica Tenney's work in painting, drawing, and printmaking, and provides a comprehensive look at this local artist's unique body of work. Daniel Mason, Curator at the Piedmont Virginia Community College Gallery, organized the exhibition. Other venues for Tenney's work include the Piedmont Virginia Community College Gallery, University of Virginia Art Museum, McGuffey Art Center Gallery, and Second Street Gallery.

The Paramount Theater's lobby is currently housing four charcoal drawings by Tenney of actress Jennifer Mendenhall. A reception for the public will be held on Friday, October 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The drawings will remain on display at The Paramount through November 10.

Chica Tenney: Advent allows the viewer to explore the development of a community artist from early works developed in her McGuffey studio to mature paintings inspired by the location of her present studio in Buckingham County. Throughout, she has employed the figure, still life and landscape to explore questions about human experience. A member and participant in the founding of the McGuffey Art Center, Tenney taught painting and drawing for 28 years at Piedmont Virginia Community College before retiring in December 2004 as director of the PVCC art program and gallery. In the spring, she received the designation of professor emeritus in recognition of her contribution to the PVCC art program and the local arts community.
