January 29, 2008

Continuing the theater’s participation in First Fridays, The Paramount is hosting an exhibit featuring the modern work of local artist Durrell Jackson. His show at The Paramount will open on Friday, February 1 at 5:30 pm, and be installed in the theater’s ballroom (on the ground level adjacent to the grand lobby) for the month of February.

Durrell Jackson thrives in the world of modern art, mainly due to its “vast landscape in which to work,” as he states. Educated at Virginia Union University, Jackson honed his skills at Theatre IV in Richmond, where he worked on lighting and as a set designer, and also enjoyed teaching the “Art at the Hand” workshop. Jackson’s work has been seen in Charlottesville at La Galleria, Mountain Air Gallery, Bozart Gallery, and the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression.

The First Fridays Exhibit featuring the work of Durrell Jackson will be open on February 1 from 5:30 to 7 pm. Admission is free. For information about The Paramount Theater, please visit www.theparamount.net or call 434.979.1333.
