The Metropolitan Opera, now celebrating its 125th anniversary season, has selected Charlottesville’s Paramount Theater as a broadcast venue for the third series of The Met: Live in HD. The Paramount Theater will host 11 High Definition transmissions of the 2008-09 opera season, live from the Metropolitan Opera stage in New York City, beginning with the Opening Night Gala, starring Renée Fleming, on September 22.
The lineup of afternoon live opera broadcasts will include 5 new productions, including one Met première, plus 5 opera classics. Two operas, La Damnation de Faust and Thaïs (also with Renée Fleming), will be shown at The Paramount as re-broadcasts due to previously scheduled events.
