Charlottesville Opera Presents: The Barber of Seville
THE BARBER OF SEVILLE
Composed by Gioachino Rossini
Libretto by Cesare Sterbini
Orchestral edition by Bryan Higgins, by arrangement with Motet Music Publishing Company
Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
Get ready for scheming, singing, and romantic chaos in Charlottesville Opera’s production of Rossini’s effervescent comedy The Barber of Seville. When the clever barber, Figaro, helps Count Almaviva woo the lovely Rosina, the result is a whirlwind of disguises, deceptions, and delightful hijinks. Our orchestra brings Rossini’s sparkling score to life—including the instantly recognizable “Largo al factotum”—while the mesmerizing performers navigate this madcap love story with wit and vocal brilliance. With vibrant period costumes and sets that capture the warmth of 18th-century Spain, this is opera at its most fun, proving that sometimes the best way to win a heart is with a little mischief and a lot of music.
